Dan Cox’s CRT Win: Department-Wide Impact with Whole-of-Government Reach
Daniel led the end-to-end implementation of the Corporate Reporting Tool (CRT) at Natural Resources Canada—starting by sourcing the tool from Veterans Affairs Canada and tailoring it for NRCan’s unique performance measurement and reporting needs.
He managed the project through the Government of Canada’s IT Project Management Framework (IT PMF), guided it through the security architecture process, and worked across Performance, Finance, IM/IT, and executive teams to build a solution that aligns with the Policy on Results and supports better departmental performance management.
After delivering a successful demo to the Director General, directors, and planners on April 14, Daniel incorporated their feedback into a live post-launch plan that addresses user-specific training, a bilingual rollout, a shared data dictionary, performance history tracking, and more. The tool is now being rolled out across the entire department and is already supporting a cultural shift in how performance and resource planning are connected.
Beyond NRCan, Daniel is also supporting other departments exploring CRT as a way to strengthen whole-of-government reporting and improve the consistency and quality of results data. His collaborative, calm, and strategic approach has helped bridge the gap between policy, tech, and people—turning a promising tool into a meaningful government-wide solution.
